# Web Import

Web Import brings public website content into a Clear Ideas Site so that content can live inside the same governed workspace as your other approved materials.

This is especially useful when your team wants website content to support:

- [Public AI Chat](/public-chat/public-ai-chat)
- search and retrieval inside the Site
- repeatable AI or workflow automation over imported pages

## What Web Import Does

Web Import can:

- import a page immediately for one-time capture
- follow links to bring in a larger section of a website
- import HTML pages and linked PDFs
- create recurring schedules to keep imported content current
- create new versions when imported source content changes

## Immediate Import

Use immediate import when you want a one-time capture or when you want to test settings before creating a schedule.

From the Site:

1. Open the Web Import action
2. Enter the starting URL
3. Optionally define a URL mask
4. Choose link depth and file types
5. Select the destination folder
6. Run the import

## Scheduled Import

Use scheduled imports when a website changes regularly and you want the Site to stay aligned with it.

Schedules are useful for:

- product documentation
- help centers
- resource libraries
- public knowledge bases

## Version Behavior

Web Import maintains a URL-to-file relationship. When imported content changes, Clear Ideas can add a new version of the corresponding file rather than overwriting history invisibly.

## Why This Matters
