# Email Settings

Your email address is central to your Clear Ideas account. It's used for authentication, notifications, billing, and account recovery. Manage your email address through Settings > Email Settings.

## Changing Your Email Address

To update your email address:

1. Navigate to **Settings > Email Settings**
2. Review your current email address displayed on the page
3. Click **Change Email** to open the email change dialog
4. Enter your new email address in the dialog
5. Confirm the change
6. Complete the verification process

**Email Verification**: After entering a new email address, you'll receive a verification email at the new address. You must verify the new email before it becomes active.

**Important Notes**:
- Your current email address is displayed on the Email Settings page
- Email changes require verification before taking effect
- Until verification is complete, your old email remains active for login and notifications
- Verification emails may take a few minutes to arrive

## Email Verification Process

The email change process uses a two-step verification system for security:

### Step 1: Request Email Change

1. **Enter New Email**: In the Change Email dialog, enter your new email address
2. **Validation**: The system validates that:
   - The email address is in a valid format
   - The new email is different from your current email
3. **Verification Code Sent**: A 6-digit verification code is sent to your new email address
4. **Code Expiration**: The verification code expires after a set period (shown in the dialog)

### Step 2: Verify Email Change

1. **Check Your Email**: Open your new email inbox and find the verification code
2. **Enter Code**: Return to the dialog and enter the 6-digit verification code
3. **Complete Verification**: Click "Verify & Update" to complete the process
4. **Email Activated**: Once verified, your new email becomes your primary email address

**Important**:
- The verification code is 6 digits
- Check your spam/junk folder if you don't receive the code
- You can go back to change the email address if needed
- Until verification is complete, your old email address remains active for account access and notifications

## Impact of Email Changes

Changing your email address affects several aspects of your account:

### Notifications

**Notification Delivery**: All email notifications will be sent to your new email address once verified. Pending notifications may still be sent to your old address until verification completes.

### Account Access

**Login**: You'll use your new email address to sign in to Clear Ideas after verification.

### Billing

**Billing Communications**: Billing receipts, invoices, and payment notifications will be sent to your new email address.

### Organization Membership

**Domain-Based Organizations**: If your organization uses domain-based membership, changing to an email with a different domain may affect your organization membership. Contact your organization administrator before changing your email if you're part of a domain-based organization.

## Best Practices

**Verify Promptly**: Complete email verification as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted access to your account and notifications.

**Check Spam Folder**: Verification emails may be filtered to your spam or junk folder. Check these folders if you don't receive the verification email.

**Update Recovery**: Ensure your new email address is accessible and secure, as it's used for account recovery.

**Organization Considerations**: If you're part of an organization, coordinate email changes with your administrator to maintain organization membership.
